IQ Soccer at the prestigious Celtic Cup in California

IQ Football Academy was established to compliment the developmental process of junior and youth athletes. Competition coaches are driven by team results and as such their primary focus is on team structure. Their secondary focus is on the technical development of each individual player. It is no fault of these coaches, but more of the ‘competition environment’ that is ‘result driven’ that our players exist in.

The philosophy of the IQ Football Academy is to create a competitive environment as opposed to a competition environment whereby the primary focus is on individual technical

development. In a competitive environment the individual athlete strives to improve their individual performance in a squad environment. Emphasis is placed on individual technical improvement. There is no mention of winning as this is out of the control of the athlete. However, how well they perform is totally in the control of the individual. If all athletes on the field of play perform to their full potential then this increases the chance of being successful; winning as a consequence of development!

The ‘IQ’ in IQ Football Academy stands for ‘intensity and quality’, which should breed smarter faster players. This is based on the three speeds in football; speed of movement, speed of ball and speed of thought. Speed of thought controls the other two. At the IQ Football Academy we attempt to increase the speed of thought of players by developing their technical ability to a point where the player does not need to concentrate 100% on the control and distribution of the ball. Their first touch should be that good it becomes a learned behavior and is second nature to them. First nature has to be the decision.
